Maidenhead Heritage Centre & The ATA Museum
18 Park Street MAIDENHEAD Berkshire SL6 1SL
South East
The Maidenhead Heritage Centre traces the history and heritage of the area around Maidenhead, near Windsor
From the stone age, via the Romans (our Roman skeleton, “Julius”, was found in Bray), to the 21st century, learn how transport was key to developing the area, from ancient river travel, to stage coaches connecting London westwards, and then the arrival of Brunel’s railway
In the mid 1900’s, local business Vanwall helped create Formula 1 racing, and during WWII, White Waltham airfield was HQ for the inspirational men and women of the Air Transport Auxiliary, who supported the RAF throughout the conflict
Our specialist ATA collection is considered the most complete anywhere in the world and visitors may choose to enjoy the evocative experience of flying our Spitfire Flight Simulator!
