Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery is home to a variety of exhibitions exploring the city’s rich and varied history.
'No Place Like Pompey' explores what’s special about the UK’s only island city, whilst 'Portsmouth at Play' celebrates the myriad ways in which recreational habits have changed over the years. There’s also 'Football in the City', covering Portsmouth FC’s importance to many city residents, and 'The Story of Portsmouth' – discover how home life has changed over time through room reconstructions, using objects from the museums’ collections. 'A Study in Sherlock' explores Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's time in the city and the creation of Sherlock Holmes.
The art offer includes the Picture Gallery, Fine and Decorative Art Gallery and a further temporary exhibition gallery. Free entry

The Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery has the 'We're Good to Go' award from Visit Britain, confirming we meet Covid19 safety guidance. Temporary restrictions mean we have limited capacity, a one way system, ask visitors to wear a face covering and follow our one-way system and use the regular hand sanitiser points. Groups must book in advance and will be allowed entry in line with restrictions at the time of visit. Certain areas may not be fully open to ensure safety of our visitors.
